Yilan County Council Secretary Huang Yu-heng (黃毓恒), 51, has been reported missing along with his wife and son.
After a period of unapproved absence, his assistant this morning submitted a resignation letter at his request.
The council confirmed that it bears his handwritten signature and today’s date.

The letter said that he requires long-term rest and recuperation due to poor health.
However, Huang’s father has filed a missing persons report with the police.
After undergoing surgery last year for a pancreatic cyst, he suffered from poor health and began taking leave in the second half of last year, Yilan County Council Secretary-General Kuan Shen-ke (官伸科) said.
His leave expired at the end of the Lunar New Year holiday, although he failed to return to work, he said.
Staff were sent to check on him at his residence, where they found the front door locked and the home empty, he added.
Kuan said he also attempted to call Huang’s wife, only to be told he had dialed the wrong number.
His son’s junior-high school reported that he had failed to attend classes in the new semester and was unenrolled on Wednesday last week.
The school reported there were no irregularities in his performance and behavior, Yilan County Education Department Director Chen Jin-chi (陳金奇) said.
The council also contacted Huang’s father, who also did not know the whereabouts of the family of three.
An office assistant later contacted him on Facebook to warn him that failure to report back to work could result in dismissal.
One councilor said they had not heard of Huang having any debt or legal issues.
