Overnight lows of 16°C to 18°C can be expected across Taiwan, the CWA said.
Skies are to be partly cloudy to sunny on Taiwan's outlying islands, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 28°C in Penghu County, 18°C to 27°C in Kinmen County, and 18°C to 24°C in Lienchiang County (Matsu), the CWA said.
Due to strengthening northeasterly winds, areas along the coasts of New Taipei City, the Hengchun Peninsula and Penghu, and from Miaoli to Changhua counties could experience sustained winds of 39kph to 50kph, with gusts of 62kph to 75kph, the agency said.
Conditions are to remain stable tomorrow and on Thursday, with daytime highs to reach 30°C to 31°C in the western half of Taiwan, 25°C to 26°C in the eastern half, and 25°C to 27°C in outlying island areas.
Starting on Friday, moisture in the atmosphere is to increase due to an approaching weather front, the agency said.
That front is forecast to pass through Taiwan on Sunday, bringing sporadic showers to central, northern and northeastern Taiwan and mountainous areas in the south, while eastern and southeastern Taiwan could also expect scattered showers, the CWA said.
By Monday next week, there is to be abundant moisture in the air, and from Tuesday to Thursday, the weather would be affected by a lingering front, it said.
Taiwan is stepping up plans to create self-sufficient supply chains for combat drones and increase foreign orders from the US to counter China’s numerical superiority, a defense official said on Saturday. Commenting on condition of anonymity, the official said the nation’s armed forces are in agreement with US Admiral Samuel Paparo’s assessment that Taiwan’s military must be prepared to turn the nation’s waters into a “hellscape” for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Paparo, the commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, reiterated the concept during a Congressional hearing in Washington on Wednesday. He first coined the term in a security conference last

The fundraising campaign, which runs through May 31, is focused on supporting the reconstruction of damaged overseas compatriot schools, assisting students from Myanmar in Taiwan, and providing essential items, such as drinking water, food and medical supplies,
Prosecutors today declined to say who was questioned regarding alleged forgery on petitions to recall Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators, after Chinese-language media earlier reported that members of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Youth League were brought in for questioning. The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau confirmed that two people had been questioned, but did not disclose any further information about the ongoing investigation. KMT Youth League members Lee Hsiao-liang (李孝亮) and Liu Szu-yin (劉思吟) — who are leading the effort to recall DPP caucus chief executive Rosalia Wu (吳思瑤) and Legislator Wu Pei-yi (吳沛憶) — both posted on Facebook saying: “I
