The Central Weather Administration (CWA) today issued cold surge warnings for New Taipei City and offshore Kinmen and Lienchiang counties, as a period of persistently low temperatures is expected.
The CWA issued "orange alerts" for Kinmen and Lienchiang (Matsu), signaling sustained temperatures around or below 10°C and possibly dropping below 6°C.

"Yellow alerts" warning of lows below 10°C were issued for New Taipei City.
The CWA forecast daytime highs of 15°C to 17°C for other parts of northern and northeastern Taiwan, 18°C to 22°C in central Taiwan and 24°C to 27°C in the rest of the country.
The CWA added that wet weather is expected to prevail nationwide, with heavy rainfall likely in parts of northern, northeastern and mountainous areas in central Taiwan.
Occasional brief showers are likely in other regions.
The rain is to begin to ease after tomorrow, although localized showers could occur in the north and the eastern half of the main island throughout the rest of the week, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said.
Stable weather and rising temperatures are expected to return across Taiwan by Wednesday, Wu said.
Sunny to cloudy skies are also expected on the first two days of the Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday on Thursday and Friday.

A wild live dugong was found in Taiwan for the first time in 88 years, after it was accidentally caught by a fisher’s net on Tuesday in Yilan County’s Fenniaolin (粉鳥林). This is the first sighting of the species in Taiwan since 1937, having already been considered “extinct” in the country and considered as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. A fisher surnamed Chen (陳) went to Fenniaolin to collect the fish in his netting, but instead caught a 3m long, 500kg dugong. The fisher released the animal back into the wild, not realizing it was an endangered species at
