Showers and thunderstorm were expected across Taiwan today due to a system that is bringing unstable weather, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
Sporadic heavy rain is likely in west Taiwan, as well as in Keelung, and Hualien and Taitung counties, the CWA said.
The weather agency issued a heavy rain advisory for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City and Taichung, as well as Hsinchu, Miaoli, Changhua, Yunlin and Penghu counties, warning of accumulated rainfall exceeding 80mm in a 24-hour period or hourly rainfall exceeding 40mm.

It has also warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas in the north.
Meanwhile, daytime temperatures would be about 25°C in the north and 27°C to 30°C in the rest of the country, but the mercury is forecast to drop sharply tonight, the CWA said.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said that temperatures would cool on Saturday night with the arrival of a cold-air system.
Lows of 12°C can be expected in Taipei on Sunday night, while some other low-lying areas in the north are likely to have temperatures below 10°C, Wu said.
However, sunny to cloudy skies are expected nationwide by about Monday next week and would last for at least six days, he said.
