The Central Weather Administration (CWA) today issued a heavy rain advisory for some areas of northern Taiwan, as the wet weather was forecast to remain across most of the nation.
The abundant moisture is being carried on a passing cloud system that came in from southern China, bringing rains to central and northern parts of Taiwan, and the eastern counties of Hualien and Taitung, the CWA said.
It has issued a heavy rain advisory for Keelung and New Taipei City, as well as Yilan County, warning of accumulated rainfall of more than 80mm in a 24-hour period or hourly rainfall exceeding 40mm.

The CWA has also warned the public to be mindful of possible landslides and falling rocks when traveling in mountainous areas.
As the rainy weather continues today, Wanli District (萬里) in New Taipei City recorded 63.5mm of accumulated rainfall from 12am to 8am, CWA data showed.
It was the heaviest precipitation recorded nationwide for the eight-hour period, followed by 48.5mm in Keelung's Zhongshan District (中山), the CWA said.
Meanwhile, due to seasonal northeasterly winds, lows of 13°C to 14°C are expected today in some areas of central, northern and northeastern Taiwan, and 16°C to 18°C in the southern parts of the country, as well as in Taitung and Hualien counties in the east, the CWA said.
Other regions, including Penghu, Kinmen and Lienchiang (Matsu) counties, could see lows of about 8°C to 16°C, the CWA said.

Beginning last year, China entrenched its position in the southern region of the first island chain, often with Russia’s active support, he said. In May of the same year, a Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) force consisting of a Type 054A destroyer, Type 055 destroyer,

POLICY UNCHANGED? Despite Trump’s remarks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured that US policy toward Taiwan has remained consistent since the 1970s US President Donald Trump on Wednesday again refused to make clear his stance on protecting Taiwan from a hypothetical takeover by China during his presidency. Asked by a reporter during a Cabinet meeting whether it was his policy that China would never take Taiwan by force while he is president, Trump declined to give a definitive answer. “I never comment on that,” he said. “I don’t comment on it because I don’t want to ever put myself in that position.” Trump also reiterated that he has a “great relationship” with Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) and said that Washington welcomes good relations with
