Production of the AT-5 Yung Ying (勇鷹, “Brave Eagle”) training jet is proceeding smoothly following the model’s first crash on Saturday, Aerospace Industrial Development Corp (AIDC) president Ma Wan-june (馬萬鈞) said today.
A Brave Eagle crashed at about 8:40am on Saturday last week 5 nautical miles (9.26km) off the coast of Taitung County, marking the first time the model has crashed since it was added to the air force’s fleet.
The air force ordered the temporary grounding of the model and established a special task force to investigate.

A team from AIDC joined the task force and would make further judgements once the investigation is complete, the company said.
The jet has been produced according to standard procedures without any problems, Ma said.
The only real challenge has been disruptions in the supply chain, which is a global issue affecting major aircraft manufacturers, he said.
Assembly and testing of Brave Eagles have been smooth and problem-free, he added.
To date, AIDC has delivered 41 out of 66 Brave Eagles ordered by the air force and is preparing to deliver the 42nd, Ma said.
“We have not received any orders to halt production of the jet,” Ma said.

Starlux Airlines on Tuesday announced it is to launch new direct flights from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Ontario, California, on June 2.
