Temperatures across Miaoli County are forecast to drop below 6°C between late tonight and early tomorrow, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
As of this noon, the CWA issued an "orange" cold surge advisory for Miaoli, warning of "very cold" weather due to the effects of radiative cooling.
The CWA reminded Miaoli residents to stay warm and be aware of safety precautions when using heaters.

According to the CWA, temperatures below 6°C were recorded in locations in Miaoli, New Taipei City and Keelung City early this morning.
The lowest temperature recorded today was 2.3°C, which was recorded at 3am at Miaoli's Dahe Weather Station.
Meanwhile, the CWA also issued a "yellow" cold surge advisory for the cities of Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, Keelung and Hsinchu as well as Yilan, Hsinchu, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi and Kinmen counties, warning of overnight temperatures below 10°C between today and tomorrow.
Cloudy and sunny weather is forecast for most of Taiwan during this time, with sporadic rain in parts of Hualien and Taitung, the CWA said.
Rain could spread to the eastern and southeastern parts of Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) and mountainous areas in the central and southern parts of the island on Friday, it added.
The arrival of a weather front later on Friday will then bring sporadic rain to the rest of Taiwan, it said.
