A parade for Taiwan’s baseball team is to be held tomorrow afternoon in Taipei after President William Lai (賴清德) receives the world champions at the Presidential Office.
Taiwan defeated Japan 4-0 yesterday to win the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s (WBSC) Premier12 — the first time Taiwan has won a major international baseball competition.
The team is to return from Japan this evening escorted by four F-16V jets flown by the air force, and is to be received by Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), the Presidential Office said today, advising the public that any sound of jets heard this evening is from the baseball team escort.

It has been a longstanding practice for the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to speak on other countries’ behalf concerning Taiwan, Tien said. The latest example was a statement issued by the PRC after a meeting between Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong (黃循財) and Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) on the sidelines of the APEC summit
