A police officer suspected of installing a hidden camera in a police station’s women’s restroom has been punished and dismissed, the Taipei Police Department’s Daan Precinct said today.
The Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office during its investigation into Taiwan’s largest online forum that circulates private pornographic images found that the officer in question, surnamed Kuo (郭), was a member, the precinct said in a news release.
The precinct applied for a warrant and searched the station where Kuo worked as well as his place of residence, seizing evidence including computers, mobiles phones and hard drives, it said.

Kuo is suspected of installing a pinhole camera in the station’s women’s restroom to secretly record female officers and members of the public, allegedly organizing these recordings into categories and tracking the identities of those recorded, the precinct added.
Kuo was transferred to prosecutors on suspicion of contravening privacy laws and was subsequently detained, the precinct said.
Although Kuo voluntarily resigned during the investigation saying that he was no longer fit to be a police officer, he was still “severely punished” and dismissed, it said.
The precinct is evaluating Kuo’s supervisors for any responsibility they may have in the case, it said, adding that it is committed to conducting a thorough investigation without leniency to maintain the reputation of the police force.
