Police have arrested three people suspected of being involved in the death of a soldier following a brawl outside a karaoke bar in Pingtung on Saturday.
A fight broke out between two men on Ruiguang Road in Pingtung City on early morning Saturday, which resulted in the death of a 20-year-old marine surnamed Hung (洪), police said.
Following the incident, police arrested a 24-year-old surnamed Lin (林) from the army’s 333rd Infantry Brigade, a 20-year-old surnamed Yin (鄞) of the Air Force Air Defense and Missile Command, and a 31-year-old surnamed Chiang (江) who is a friend of the other two suspects, police said, adding that Lin had allegedly been holding a knife at the time of the incident.

Police said they had received a call at about 2:40am on Saturday, but when they arrived, those involved in the brawl had already sought medical treatment.
They said they sealed off the area and then visited a local hospital to investigate.
Hung was stabbed in the stomach, had intestinal bleeding and multiple puncture wounds on his chest, abdomen, left buttock, and elsewhere, police said.
Hung succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
After taking witness statements, and examining evidence at the scene of the brawl and surveillance footage, the police said the brawl appeared to have broken out after an argument between two men who were intoxicated.
One man holding a knife and two other bare-fisted men attacked Hung, resulting in his death, police said, adding the three suspects had also sustained injuries. Police arrested the suspects after the Pingtung County Prosecutors’ Office issued warrants.
During questioning, Lin said he had “had a conflict with someone due to a minor incident that occurred in Pingtung City during his vacation,” and that he would “cooperate with the prosecutors’ investigation,” police said.
Those living near the karaoke bar said that it is a regular source of trouble for the neighborhood, police said, citing discussions with eyewitnesses.
“Neighbors complained that patrons of the bar, which is open daily from 9pm until the next morning, often make noise late at night, abuse dogs they find outside and defecate outside at random,” they said.
The Marine Corps yesterday issued a statement saying it was deeply saddened by Hung’s death and that it would cooperate with the investigation.
This is the second time such incident occurred this year.
A 17-year-old boy earlier this year was allegedly stabbed to death by a 20-year-old soldier named Wang (王) from the 333rd Infantry Brigade, following a disagreement at a karaoke bar in Pingtung City.
