Taiwan’s envoy to the US on Wednesday hosted a reception marking the upcoming Republic of China (ROC) National Day on Oct 10.
It was the first ROC National Day reception hosted by Alexander Yui (俞大?) since he became representative to the US in December last year.
In his address, Yui expressed Taipei’s gratitude for the bipartisan and “rock-solid” support from the US and the growing number of like-minded countries upholding the “democratic umbrella.”

During her address at the reception in Washington, American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Managing Director Ingrid Larson said she would like to extend “thoughts and prayers” to those in Taiwan affected by Typhoon Krathon.
The AIT represents US interests in Taiwan in the absence of official diplomatic ties. The headquarters is based in Virginia and there is a main office in Taipei and a branch office in Kaohsiung.
Its Taipei director serves as the top US envoy to Taiwan.

Separately, the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium yesterday also held a National Day reception.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were European Parliament member Michael Gahler, Belgian parliamentarian Els van Hoof and former Belgian lawmaker Georges Dallemagne.

An apartment building in New Taipei City’s Sanchong District (三重) collapsed last night after a nearby construction project earlier in the day allegedly caused it to tilt. Taiwan plans to cull as many as 120,000 invasive green iguanas this year to curb the species’ impact on local farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture said.
