A new tropical storm is expected to form by early tomorrow morning, potentially developing into a medium-strength typhoon that is to affect Taiwan through Wednesday next week, the Central Weather Administration said today.
There are currently two tropical systems circulating to the east of Taiwan, agency forecaster Hsu Chung-yi (徐仲毅) said.
The one currently north of Guam developed into Tropical Storm Gebi this afternoon and is expected to veer toward Japan without affecting Taiwan, Hsu said.

Another tropical depression is 600km from the east coast and is likely to develp into the named storm Krathon either late tonight or early tomorrow, he said.
This system is to first travel south before veering sharply north on Sunday and Monday to move parallel to Taiwan off the east coast, Hsu said.
Models currently disagree on its path, Hsu said, but added that he does not rule out the chance of the storm making landfall on the east coast.
There is also the possibility that sea and land warnings might be issued, he added.
As the low-pressure system strengthens over the weekend paired with a northeast monsoon, the north and east are to see more rain, especially in Taipei, Yilan County and the northern coast, Hsu said.
Moisture is to increase as the typhoon approaches from Monday to Wednesday, with torrential rainfall expected in the north and east and squalls likely in other regions, he added.
