President William Lai (賴清德) is to hold a party for the nation’s delegation to the Paris Paralympics on Wednesday afternoon, to be broadcast live on Youtube.
The Presidential Office today announced it is to host a “Our Heroes! Team Taiwan” Paralympics welcome party at the Presidential Office in Taipei for a meet-and-greet with Lai in a “French-themed celebration.”
The event is to be attended by 90 members of the Paralympic team, including athletes, coaches, relatives, medical teams and international adjudicators.

The event is to showcase the delegation’s bravery and dedication, and give thanks for their contributions at this year’s Paralympic Games, Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) told a news conference.
This year’s Paralympics saw Taiwan score its highest medal tally in 20 years, with more resources and media coverage than ever before, Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien (張廖萬堅) said.
Asked if the Paralympians would feature in a parade as the Olympic delegation did last month, Chang Liao said the Paralympians are to only participate in this year’s Double Ten National Day Parade to avoid wearing them out with too many events.
He thanked all those involved in the training and care of the athletes, as well as overseas and local supporters for their contributions to the team’s success.
He also thanked the media for their reporting and upholding equal rights in this year's Games.
Taiwan’s Paralympic delegation gave an outstanding performance, winning three silver and two bronze medals, Kuo said.
Their performances in table tennis, judo and badminton showcased Taiwan’s talent on the international stage, she added.
The event is to see the team travel by limousine to the Presidential Office, where the armed forces are to perform a ceremony to welcome them, General Assembly of Chinese Culture secretary-general Lee Hou-ching (李厚慶) said.
After meeting with Lai and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), the delegation is to pose for group photographs and partake in a range of activities, including a tote bag-design workshop and an area with personalized illustrations of the athletes, he added.
The event is to also feature a refreshment area fusing local Taiwanese flavors with French delicacies, Lee said.
The event is to be broadcast live on YouTube in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture.

The High Prosecutors’ Office yesterday withdrew an appeal against the acquittal of a former bank manager 22 years after his death, marking Taiwan’s first instance of prosecutors rendering posthumous justice to a wrongfully convicted defendant. Chu was ruled not guilty in the first trial, but was found guilty
A wild live dugong was found in Taiwan for the first time in 88 years, after it was accidentally caught by a fisher’s net on Tuesday in Yilan County’s Fenniaolin (粉鳥林). This is the first sighting of the species in Taiwan since 1937, having already been considered “extinct” in the country and considered as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. A fisher surnamed Chen (陳) went to Fenniaolin to collect the fish in his netting, but instead caught a 3m long, 500kg dugong. The fisher released the animal back into the wild, not realizing it was an endangered species at
DEADLOCK: As the commission is unable to forum a quorum to review license renewal applications, the channel operators are not at fault and can air past their license date The National Communications Commission (NCC) yesterday said that the Public Television Service (PTS) and 36 other television and radio broadcasters could continue airing, despite the commission’s inability to meet a quorum to review their license renewal applications. The licenses of PTS and the other channels are set to expire between this month and June. The National Communications Commission Organization Act (國家通訊傳播委員會組織法) stipulates that the commission must meet the mandated quorum of four to hold a valid meeting. The seven-member commission currently has only three commissioners. “We have informed the channel operators of the progress we have made in reviewing their license renewal applications, and
