Australian musical trio Glass Beams is to perform in Taiwan for the first time on July 28 at Taipei Water Park.
Known for wearing ornate masks knit in gold and glass, the enigmatic group from Melbourne formed in 2020 during COVID-19 lockdowns and released their debut EP Mirage in June 2021.
Their music is a psychedelic blend of classical Indian, disco and pop, integrating rock, electronic and funk to create a unique style that has already drawn more than 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Although they have only released two EPs so far — the second in March this year — the trio has consistently sold out shows across Europe, North America and Australia.
Now they are coming to Taipei for the first time, performing on an outdoor stage at the Taipei Water Park in the city’s Gongguan (公館) area, organizer PIPE Live Music said.
The performance is a special summer edition of the ChillOut Festival, to be held on Sept. 28 and 29.
Opening the show is Mong Tong, a Taiwanese duo with atmospheric music characterized by “hypnotic rhythms, dreamy melodies and otherworldly atmospheres.”
Influenced by Southeast Asian culture and psychedelic music from the 1960s and 1970s, Mong Tong perform with a red cloth covering their eyes in a nod to the Taoist ritual of guanluoyin (觀落陰), or “visiting hell.”
Tickets are now on sale on Fansi Go.
