The popular Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival in September is to accept 25,000 participants in groups of at least five this year, the organizer said today.
As registration for last year’s event filled in three days, the Puli Four-Season Swimming Association decided to accept up to 25,000 participants this year, up from the 24,636 who participated last year.
Registration is to open next month, limited to groups of at least five, it said.

The Sept. 15 event is scheduled for two days before the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Nantou County Government said.
As the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on a Tuesday this year and the day before is a regular work day, the Sunday event should not interfere with holiday travel, it said.
The association is also encouraging participants to eat at restaurants instead of ordering lunch boxes to support local businesses and reduce waste.

Starlux Airlines on Tuesday announced it is to launch new direct flights from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Ontario, California, on June 2. The carrier said it plans to deploy the new-generation Airbus A350 on the Taipei-Ontario route.
