Ten Chinese military aircraft entered the nation’s southern airspace between Sunday and Monday, coming as close as 44 nautical miles (81km) from Taiwan’s southernmost point.
In the 24 hours ending at 6am on Monday, 21 Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft were detected operating near Taiwan, the Ministry of National Defense said in a news release.
Eleven PLA navy vessels and four coast guard ships were also detected, it said.

Ten of the aircraft entered the nation’s southwestern and southeastern air defense identification zone, coming within 44 nautical miles of Oluanpi (鵝鑾鼻) at the nearest point, it added.
The ministry said it monitored the situation and deployed aircraft, navy vessels and coastal missile systems to respond.

The suspect, surnamed Chang (張), was arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with the death of a 71-year-old woman surnamed Chao (趙). Johanne Liou (劉喬安), a Taiwanese woman who shot to unwanted fame during the Sunflower movement protests in 2014, was arrested in Boston last month amid US President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said yesterday. The arrest of Liou was first made public on the official Web site of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday. ICE said Liou was apprehended for overstaying her visa.
