A man yesterday morning wrote online that he had witnessed nurses taking photographs and touching anesthetized patients inappropriately in Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital’s operating theaters.
The man surnamed Huang (黃) wrote on the Professional Technology Temple bulletin board that during his six-month stint as a nurse at the hospital, he had seen nurses taking pictures of patients, including of their private parts, after they were anesthetized.
Some nurses had also touched patients inappropriately and children were among those photographed, he said.

Huang said this “disgusted” him “so much” that “he felt the need to reveal these unethical acts in the operating theater before quitting.”
POLICE INVESTIGATION
However, as Huang had uploaded “inappropriate” photos in his post, he was questioned by police and is being investigated for suspected offenses against privacy under the Criminal Code, New Taipei City Police Department’s Sindian Precinct said.
A separate investigation is being carried out to find out who took the photographs, it said.
HOSPITAL’S RESPONSE
Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital said in a statement that “all the claims are untrue,” and that it “adheres strictly to patient rights and privacy.”
It added that photography for nonmedical purposes is prohibited in the operating theater.
The hospital said that it has “initiated an investigation to trace the source of the photos, the motive for taking the photos and where they were taken.”
Huang would be stopped from accessing any “related information,” it said, without elaborating.
It added that it had reported the case to the police and was willing to assist in the investigation in any way necessary.
