The weather across Taiwan today is to warm before a cold front lowers temperatures ahead of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
Areas north of Taoyuan, eastern Taiwan and parts of the Hengchun Peninsula are to be cloudy today, with daytime highs of about 27°C in the north.
In the east, daytime highs are to reach 25°C to 27°C, while in central and southern regions, the mercury is to climb to 28°C to 30°C, with Pingtung County expected to experience highs of 32°C.

During the day, temperatures are to be about 25°C to 28°C in most regions, with nighttime lows of 17°C to 19°C across Taiwan proper, the CWA said.
Seasonal northeasterly winds are to weaken and turn to southerly winds today, with eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula expected to receive intermittent rain in the daytime, when the weather would be mostly cloudy to sunny across the country, it said.
A front forecast to hit Taiwan tomorrow would bring brief showers to areas in the east and north of central Taiwan, with heavier rain before noon.
The winds would also turn northeasterly due to the cold front, and temperatures are set to drop in northern Taiwan from Tuesday.
CWA forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) said that the mercury is set to plummet to as low as 13°C to 14°C degrees in central and northern regions in the early morning on Thursday, while other areas could experience lows of 16°C.
The cold front is forecast to linger until Saturday, during which daytime lows of 11°C to 12°C could occur in the north, Chang said.
Rainfall is also forecast across many parts of Taiwan from Wednesday to Friday due to the effect of a cloud system moving eastward toward Taiwan proper, the CWA said.

A relatively large earthquake may strike within the next two weeks, following a magnitude 5.2 temblor that shook Taitung County this morning, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. An earthquake struck at 8:18am today 10.2km west of Taitung County Hall in Taitung City at a relatively shallow depth of 6.5km, CWA data showed. Snow fell in the mountainous areas of northern, central and eastern Taiwan in the early hours of yesterday, as cold air currents moved south.
