Pingtung County is to begin selling tickets to the Dajin waterfall beginning tomorrow, which has been repurposed as a “fantastic” tourist hotspot featuring interactive devices, light shows and local cultural and historic landmarks, the Pingtung County Government said.
The site as a tourist location, however, would only be available after Jan. 23, it added.
Located beside Pingtung County Highway No. 187, the Dajin waterfall is well-known in the local community, with most schoolchildren visiting the waterfall at least once, if not on school field trips, then with family during vacations or holidays.

The county government said it hoped to offer visitors a different experience when visiting the area, especially during the nighttime.
To that end, the county government said it has installed equipment around the waterfall and categorised the hotspot into four different exhibition areas, offering a visitor experience encompassing themes of water and light.
The light show being put up for display would not only feature produce from Gaoshu Township (高樹), but also include elements of local culture, including Hoklo, Hakka and Makatao and other indigenous groups, the county government said.
These elements would include owls, pangolins, Formosan black bears and Formosan macaques, representing the totems of different villages and symbolizing that humans and nature are one, the county government said, adding that creative light displays designed by local schools would also be on show.
From Jan. 23 to 25, the exhibit is to allow 200 visitors through every hour, the county government said.
Gaohsu Township residents can request free tickets slotted at certain hours. Tickets are to go on sale on Tuesday and can be purchased through ibon kiosks at 7-Eleven convenience stores or through its Open Point application, it added.

Global bodies should stop excluding Taiwan for political reasons, President William Lai (賴清德) told Pope Francis in a letter, adding that he agrees war has no winners. The Vatican is one of only 12 countries to retain formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, and Taipei has watched with concern efforts by Beijing and the Holy See to improve ties. In October, the Vatican and China extended an accord on the appointment of Catholic bishops in China for four years, pointing to a new level of trust between the two parties.
