In his welcoming speech, You said the Formosa Club has been vocal in its support for Taiwan in the international community, including Taiwan’s bids to join the WHO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the like.
It also showed unwavering support for Taiwan earlier this August when issuing condemnation against the Central American Parliament when the organization, comprised of the parliaments of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic, passed a motion to replace Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan with China’s National People’s Congress as an observer.
Taiwan is also grateful for the Caribbean allies’ calls of support for Taiwan at last month’s UN General Assembly in New York, backing Taiwan’s inclusion in the world body, You said.
With the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is hoped that there would be more parliamentary exchanges between the countries, allowing the world to see the proactive energy shared between Taiwan and its Caribbean allies in upholding values of democracy and freedom, You said.
