Nine people connected to a logistics platform fraud case involving over NT$18.8 billion (US$579.8 million) were found guilty and face jail sentences of up to nine years for contravening the Banking Act (銀行法), after the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s ruling from earlier this month.
The Supreme Court on Oct. 12 rejected an appeal filed by nine suspects, including Huang Chen-lung (黃振龍), who were investors in or solicitors of the logistics platform Catch Power, upholding their sentences, which range from 44 months to nine years.
Huang and his eight co-defendants were among 30 people initially indicted by Chiayi District Prosecutors Office along with Catch Power President Sun Yueh-tse (孫岳澤) and Sun’s wife, Lee Hsin-chieh (李欣潔), on charges of fraud and contraventions of the Banking Act.

Sun and Lee ran a logistics business that enabled people to engage in online shopping and pick up packages at MRT stations, but absconded in 2017 after the company encountering financial difficulties.
The district court in Chiayi ruled that Huang and the 29 defendants were not guilty due to a lack of evidence proving that they were accomplices, but the prosecutors appealed the ruling.
The prosecutors withdrew their appeals against six defendants during the trial at the Tainan branch of the High Court, and the court upheld the ruling that 11 of the defendants were not guilty, which the prosecutors did not appeal.
However, the High Court also ruled that Huang and 12 co-defendants were guilty because they had received huge interest payments from Sun while the investors they solicited were only given small payments. Jail terms were handed down to nine of the defendants, with four released on probation.
The nine defendants appealed the ruling, but the Supreme Court upheld the decision by the lower court.
The ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
