The long-awaited Taipei Dome officially opened on Friday, ahead of two test matches to be held next month and the Asian Baseball Championship in December.
After entering through an underground passageway connecting from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), Farglory Group deputy general manager Jacky Yang (楊舜欽) and other officials listened to a report and inspected the facilities.
The mayor praised the day as momentous for Taiwan’s baseball fans and the capital, capping off more than 30 years of efforts to build a major stadium in the city.

Two test matches are to be held next month organized by the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA) involving the amateur Taipei Highwealth club and other teams to gather feedback from players and fans, Chiang said.
A closed test is to be held on Nov. 14, followed by a match open to the public on Nov. 18, Yang said.
A total of 12,000 people may attend the Nov. 18 match, although details are still being discussed with the CTBA, he said, adding that more information would be announced early next month.
