International travelers would soon be paying more for flight tickets, as the Civil Aeronautics Administration yesterday said that aviation fuel surcharges on short-haul and long-haul flights are to rise by US$2.50 and US$6.50 per aviation segment respectively, due to a spike in oil prices.
Following the adjustment, which applies to flight tickets issued on or after Sunday, passengers boarding short-haul international flights are to pay US$27.50 in aviation fuel surcharge per aviation segment, up from US$25 last month. Those boarding long-haul flights are to pay US$71.50 in fuel charge, up from US$65 last month.
Passengers purchasing round-trip tickets are expected to pay US$5 more in aviation fuel surcharge for short-haul flights and US$13 more for long-haul flights, the agency said.

This was the administration’s third consecutive adjustment since August this year, it said.
The administration said the aviation fuel surcharge is adjusted based on the changes in oil price announced by CPC Corp, Taiwan, adding that the aviation fuel surcharge was lower during the first half of this year.
EVA Airways and Uni Air said that they would begin raising the aviation fuel surcharge on Sunday after securing the approval from the administration.
In other news, EVA Air Flight BR68 returning from London to Taipei via Bangkok was forced to divert to Vienna on Sunday after two unruly passengers verbally abused and physically attacked flight attendants.
A woman went to sit in a seat in luxury economy class without permission and refused to leave, while the man who traveled with her smoked an e-cigarette inside the flight cabin, the airline said, adding that both were subdued through cooperation of flight attendants and passengers.
For safety reasons, the captain diverted the flight to Vienna to hand over the two unruly passengers to the local police, the airline said.
A total of 340 passengers were arranged to reboard the flight at 4:40am yesterday and were scheduled to land last night, it said, adding the flight was delayed almost 24 hours.

A relatively large earthquake may strike within the next two weeks, following a magnitude 5.2 temblor that shook Taitung County this morning, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. An earthquake struck at 8:18am today 10.2km west of Taitung County Hall in Taitung City at a relatively shallow depth of 6.5km, CWA data showed.
