Those in the 40 to 49 age group, who have greater flexibility regarding work and more disposable income, are the most willing to travel domestically, while those aged 30 to 39 are the most eager to travel abroad, the survey said.
People aged 20 to 29 are less willing to travel abroad because most of them have only recently started their careers and are more conservative about entertainment expenses, while people aged 50 to 59 have more interest in traveling domestically and abroad, indicating that there is business potential in tourism for older people, the survey said.
As of last month, “domestic travel” placed third among purchases people plan to make, behind “dining with family” and “dining and drinking with friends,” the survey showed.
Eastern Online Co head of marketing Wen Shih-yin (溫詩吟) said that traveling in Taiwan is more convenient and safer for local consumers, because the travel plans are easier and they can spend less time in transit, adding that business opportunities for short local trips could be further developed.
The results include two surveys conducted online that involved 1,500 people aged 20 to 59.
