The Cabinet on Wednesday said it is to integrate resources from across ministries to expand food and goods banks nationwide as part of efforts to support underprivileged communities.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) said that maintaining a basic standard of living for everyone is more important than ever, as Taiwan feels the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and inflation, the Executive Yuan said in a news release.
Central and local governments have been working with civil groups in recent years to expand food and goods banks, partially funded by the COVID-19 special budget, it said.

The banks seek to alleviate food scarcity and poverty, as well as create stores for disaster relief, it added.
Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) has been tasked with convening a meeting to coordinate further support efforts across agencies, including the agriculture, education, interior and health ministries, it said, adding that a report would be given during the next Cabinet meeting.
