The Military Police Command early on Wednesday staged a hostage drill at Taipei Railway Station, simulating the rescue of citizens from enemy hold.
The nation on Wednesday entered the third day of the live-fire phase of the 39th annual Han Kuang exercises.
In addition to combat drills, military forces in collaboration with local emergency responders are simulating the defense of critical infrastructure.

Officers from the 202nd Military Police Command’s 211st barracks in the early hours on Wednesday worked with Taipei police and firefighters to respond to a mock hostage situation in the station’s main hall.
A group of observers from the US was also present to offer feedback.
During the drill, police officers in the Rapid Transit Division notified nearby police and military police, who rushed to the scene and successfully engaged the enemy in close combat.
Mock explosives were then discovered in the basement of the station, which were removed by a bomb squad and detonated in an open outdoor area.
During this year’s Han Kuang exercises, refineries and power plants throughout Taiwan are also being evaluated to reflect circumstances in the Russia-Ukraine war.
