Police yesterday arrested a man who allegedly asked a driver at the delivery and errand service company Lalamove to shoot at the New Taipei City offices of Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Lin Shu-fen (林淑芬).
Lin wrote on Facebook that her office in Lujhou District (蘆洲) received a message at 9:15am with a screenshot of a Lalamove order to shoot at the building.
In the instructions, the user told the delivery driver to pick up a gun at another location in the district and “empty the clip” at Lin’s office before returning the firearm to its lockbox.

The office closed yesterday out of caution, and the incident was reported to police, Lin added.
Speaking to reporters, Lin said the office also received a telephone call from an unknown number saying he was “just joking” and would turn himself in.
“This is no laughing matter,” but a deliberate attempt at instilling fear during an election season, she said.
The Lujhou police precinct in a news release said that officers tracked down a 40-year-old suspect surnamed Kuo (郭) in Taipei at about 11am through interviews and phone records.
The case is to be transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office for investigation on suspicion of endangering public safety through intimidation, it added.

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) is maintaining close ties with Beijing, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said yesterday, hours after a new round of Chinese military drills in the Taiwan Strait began. Political parties in a democracy have a responsibility to be loyal to the nation and defend its sovereignty, DPP spokesman Justin Wu (吳崢) told a news conference in Taipei. His comments came hours after Beijing announced via Chinese state media that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command was holding large-scale drills simulating a multi-pronged attack on Taiwan. Contrary to the KMT’s claims that it is staunchly anti-communist, KMT Deputy
Taiwan has recorded its first fatal case of Coxsackie B5 enterovirus in 10 years after a one-year-old boy from southern Taiwan died from complications early last month, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said yesterday. The boy was diagnosed with acute encephalitis and admitted to intensive care, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he passed away on the sixth day of illness, Lo said. This also marks Taiwan’s third enterovirus-related death this year and the first severe
