It is to be Chiang’s first overseas trip in his capacity as mayor, the city government said.
Information about his itinerary and the specific members of the delegation would be publicized when finalized, the city said in a statement.
In other news, Taipei City Councilor Yen Juo-fang (顏若芳) of the Democratic Progressive Party yesterday panned Chiang for not attending the Taipei Open badminton finals on Sunday, despite being the mayor of the host city.
Badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) won her fifth Taipei Open, while second-seeded men’s doubles duo Lu Ching-yao (盧敬堯) and Yang Po-han (楊博涵) lost two consecutive games to the defending champions from Malaysia.
Yen said that Chiang was the “laughingstock of the world” for not attending the event with the excuse that “there were no Taiwanese players in the game.”
In response, Chiang yesterday said he could not attend because his official schedule was packed.
He said he had personally congratulated Tai in a call on Sunday evening, adding that the city government would “definitely give its full support and assistance to all types of sports.”
