The body of a dead leopard cat was found along a road in Changhua County’s Lugang Township (鹿港) on Wednesday night, the Council of Agriculture’s Endemic Species Research Institute said Thursday.
The body was sent to the institute Thursday to confirm the species and cause of death, after it was discovered by a local resident surnamed Huang (黃) who spotted it while riding her scooter along a road in the township late Wednesday night. The institute yesterday said the leopard cat had no bite marks, and likely died after being struck by a vehicle.

“At first it wasn’t clear to me that it was a leopard cat, as Lugang is a coastal township, and it’s quite rare to see leopard cats there,” Huang said.
The institute said the animal have gotten lost while following a stream down from the county’s Bagua Mountain (八卦山).

Taiwan yesterday issued warnings to four Chinese coast guard vessels that intruded into restricted waters around the Taiwan-controlled Kinmen Islands, according to the Coast Guard Administration (CGA).
