Regular service on Taipei MRT’s orange line was restored Wednesday afternoon, after a switch malfunction occurred at Nanshijiao Station, causing the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp to implement a temporary shuttle-bus service.
Between 12:53pm and 2:15pm, the company operated a shuttle bus between Dingxi Station on the line’s southern extremity, and Huilong Station and Luzhou Station at its northern end. The orange line splits into two lines on its northern end at Daqiaotou Station.
Two-way train service operated on a single track between Jingan Station and Yongan Market Station, with an interval of nine minutes between trains, during the disruption period.
The interval between buses at each station during the disruption was between roughly five and 10 minutes.
The company said the abnormality was detected at 12:53pm, and that it made announcements to notify passengers through its official Web site, Facebook and through the Taipei MRT Go (台北捷運Go) mobile-phone app.
Effected passengers can receive a refund at any station within seven days, it said.

Tropical Storm Usagi strengthened to a typhoon this morning and remains on track to brush past southeastern Taiwan between Friday and Sunday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. An orange gas cloud that leaked from a waste management plant yesterday morning in Taoyuan’s Guanyin District (觀音) was likely caused by acidic waste, authorities said, adding that it posed no immediate harm. The leak occurred at a plant in the district’s Environmental Science and Technology Park at about 7am, the Taoyuan Fire Department said.
