Registration for the second round of government-funded mpox vaccination starts today, with 25,000 doses available at 48 designated hospitals.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said that people who have engaged in “high-risk sexual behavior” over the past six months are eligible.
At least one hospital in every special municipality and county would offer vaccines against the disease, previously known as monkeypox, except Kinmen, Penghu and Lienchiang counties, it said.

The CDC said it allocated most doses to Taipei, with about 6,400, followed by Taichung with 4,160, Kaohsiung with 4,060 and New Taipei City with 3,160.
People who have not received an mpox vaccine would be prioritized, the CDC said, adding that it seeks to increase basic coverage among at-risk populations quickly, before offering second-dose vaccinations.
Online registration for the vaccine would begin at 2pm and be open through May 12 daily from 9am to 5pm, it said.
People can only register once and cannot change the registration after submitting it, the CDC said, adding that the system would send confirmation e-mails containing a registration number about 30 minutes after registration.
The e-mails would contain a link to a site on which people can book a vaccination appointment using that number, it said.
People should bring their national ID and National Health Insurance cards to their appointment and be able to show their registration and appointment confirmation e-mails, the CDC said.
A strong continental cold air mass and abundant moisture bringing snow to mountains 3,000m and higher over the past few days are a reminder that more than 60 years ago Taiwan had an outdoor ski resort that gradually disappeared in part due to climate change. On Oct. 24, 2021, the National Development Council posted a series of photographs on Facebook recounting the days when Taiwan had a ski resort on Hehuanshan (合歡山) in Nantou County. More than 60 years ago, when developing a branch of the Central Cross-Island Highway, the government discovered that Hehuanshan, with an elevation of more than 3,100m,

TRANSPORT CONVENIENCE: The new ticket gates would accept a variety of mobile payment methods, and buses would be installed with QR code readers for ease of use New ticketing gates for the Taipei metro system are expected to begin service in October, allowing users to swipe with cellphones and select credit cards partnered with Taipei Rapid Transit Corp (TRTC), the company said on Tuesday. TRTC said its gates in use are experiencing difficulty due to their age, as they were first installed in 2007. Maintenance is increasingly expensive and challenging as the manufacturing of components is halted or becoming harder to find, the company said. Currently, the gates only accept EasyCard, iPass and electronic icash tickets, or one-time-use tickets purchased at kiosks, the company said. Since 2023, the company said it
