Water pressure for households in Kaohsiung are to be lowered, while supplies to users in industrial and other sectors that use a lot of water would be limited from Friday amid concerns over a shortage, Taiwan Water Corp (Taiwater) said on Friday.
Kaohsiung’s water conservation alert will be raised from “yellow” to “orange” under the four-level water alert system, meaning some sectors would see a reduction in the amount of water supplied, in addition to reduced pressure, Taiwater said in a statement.
From Friday, supplies to industrial users that consume more than 1,000m3 of water per month would be curbed by 10 percent, regardless of where the factories are, it said.

For nonindustrial businesses that consume more than 1,000m3 of water per month, such as swimming pools, car washes, saunas and aquatic therapy specialists, the monthly decrease target of 10 percent would be increased in steps to 20 percent, it said.
Also from Friday, Kaohsiung households would have their water pressure lowered from 10pm to 6am each day rather than have supply limited, the statement said.
Similar measures have been in place in Chiayi and Tainan since March 1, when the water alerts there were raised to “orange.”
A cold weather front yesterday lowered temperatures and brought rain, with sporadic showers in northern, eastern and central parts of Taiwan having showers, the Central Weather Bureau said.

Paparo, the commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, reiterated the concept during a Congressional hearing in Washington on Wednesday. He first coined the term in a security conference last
