The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) yesterday reported 32,520 new COVID-19 infections, including 34 imported cases, and 76 deaths from the disease.
The deceased ranged in age from their 20s to their 90s, and all but eight had underlying health issues, while 43 were not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
The youngest death was a woman in her 20s who had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, said Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥), who is the CECC’s spokesman.

The woman had congenital heart disease and was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Oct. 14, Chuang said in a video statement, adding that the woman died on Tuesday due to pneumonia and psychogenic shock.
The CECC also reported 83 cases of COVID-19 classified as severe and 184 as moderate.
Among the severe cases is a 13-year-old boy who tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 9, it said, adding that the boy was on Monday rushed to a hospital after developing a severe headache.
A computed tomography scan found that he had intracranial hemorrhaging and high blood pressure, it said.
The boy underwent surgery on Tuesday, Chuang said, adding that his condition has improved and he was on Thursday transferred out of intensive care.
The boy might have been born with an arteriovenous malformation, an abnormal connection between arteries and veins, as his intracranial hemorrhaging was unlikely to have been triggered by COVID-19, although that has not been ruled out yet, he said.
New Taipei City recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases, with 5,671, while Taichung had 4,343, Kaohsiung 3,962, Taoyuan 3,282, Taipei 2,987 and Tainan 2,819, the CECC said.
Changhua County reported 1,825 cases, Pingtung County 1,052, Yunlin County 887, Hsinchu City 760, Hsinchu County 760, Chiayi County 673, Miaoli County 666 and Nantou County 631.
Yilan County reported 516 cases, Chiayi City 447, Hualien County 425, Keelung 419, Taitung County 175, Kinmen County 105, Penghu County 72 and Lienchiang County nine, it said.
Taiwan has recorded 7,658,580 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 36,304 classified as imported, as well as 12,696 deaths from the disease.

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) is maintaining close ties with Beijing, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) said yesterday, hours after a new round of Chinese military drills in the Taiwan Strait began.
