Marc Marquez on Sunday survived a first-lap collision with his brother Alex Marquez to win the Qatar MotoGP, for a seventh victory in eight races this season.
“Luckily for both of us we stayed on the bike,” Marc Marquez said.
Alex Marquez ran into the back of his brother’s Ducati at the second corner. Marc Marquez lost ground, but recovered to finish 1.8 seconds ahead of Spaniard Maverick Vinales on a KTM. Vinales was later penalized for illegal tire pressure, promoting Francesco Bagnaia, on a factory Ducati, to second and Franco Morbidelli, on a Ducati VR46, to third.

Reigning champion Jorge Martin, racing this weekend for the first time after a couple of bone-breaking pre-season crashes, fell again and was later admitted to a hospital with a chest injury.
Marc Marquez started from pole, but at the first corner his brother rammed into his rear wheel.
“First corner I did a mistake, for that reason Alex hit me,” Marc Marquez said. “I slide a bit and maybe he didn’t expect that.”
His brother agreed.
“I didn’t expect him there,” Alex Marquez said.
Thirty-two-year-old Marc Marquez finished the weekend at a track where he had not won since 2014 by taking two victories, pole position and the course lap record.
After starting the weekend one point behind his brother, he ended it 17 points clear in the standings.
“The most important weekend of the season so far because it is one of my weak circuits,” he said. “But I was able to come back to the top of the championship.”
Marc Marquez took his third Sunday victory in four race weekends this season. He has also won every sprint. His only miss came in Austin where he crashed while leading.
“One way to make up for the mistake of Austin,” he said, adding that he needed to learn from the past two races. “When it’s difficult, I’m more concentrated. When it’s easy I make stupid mistakes I need to avoid.”
Japanese badminton star Chiharu Shida on Tuesday told Chinese fans to “stop stalking” her, adding that she was “very scared” by the unwanted attention. Shida, who won women’s doubles bronze at the Paris Olympics last year, has a strong following in China partly because of her engagement with the local culture. The 27-year-old, currently competing at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China, has been dubbed the “Badminton Goddess” by fans and media. She hit out at some supporters on Tuesday, accusing them in an Instagram post of taking their fandom too far. “Every time we compete in China we always experience the harm

The other victim was an 18-year-old woman, according to a relative at the hospital where she was treated. The fans died after being caught underneath a
A potential European league could be a gold mine for the NBA as the top-flight North American league looks to muscle its way into a deep pool of talent across the Atlantic Ocean. The NBA is exploring the launch of a European league with world basketball governing body FIBA as a partner, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said last week, with an eye toward a 16-team format made up of 12 permanent clubs and four qualifiers. The continent’s longstanding Euroleague quickly signaled its readiness to enter into talks with the NBA, even as it has balked at the idea of another league in
College basketballer Kaitlyn Chen has become the first female player of Taiwanese descent to be drafted by a WNBA team, after the Golden State Valkyries selected her in the third and final round of the league’s draft on Monday. Chen, a point guard who played her first three seasons in college for Princeton University, transferred to the University of Connecticut (UConn) for her final season, which culminated in a national championship earlier this month. While at Princeton, Chen was named the Ivy League tournament’s most outstanding player three times from 2022 to last year. Prior to the draft, ESPN described Chen as
