Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is eager to return to soccer after having his doping ban reduced from four years to 18 months and said he dreams of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with France.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) cut the 31-year-old’s ban earlier this month after he was provisionally suspended by Italy’s National Anti-Doping Agency in September last year following a positive test for the steroid DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), a banned substance that boosts testosterone levels.
Pogba, who appealed to CAS arguing his ingestion of DHEA was not intentional, would be eligible to return to play for Juventus in March next year — and he said he was stronger, wiser and even willing to take a pay cut.

“I am ready to return to normal in 2025. I only have one desire, to play football. The reality is that I am a Juve player and I am preparing to play for Juve,” Pogba told Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday.
“I don’t have to speak, the pitch will speak and then [coach] Thiago Motta will judge with his own eyes, based on what he sees. I’m ready to give up even money to play for Juve again. I want to come back,” said the player, who has a contract with Juventus until June 2026.
Pogba, who last played for Juventus more than a year ago in a 2-0 win at Empoli, said that getting the initial ban was the most difficult moment of his career.
“It was a very difficult year and what hurt the most was spending every day outside the stadium and [Juventus’ training center] Continassa taking my children to school without being able to go inside to train or play for Juventus,” he said.
“Many past and current teammates have always supported me. [Juan] Cuadrado called me every other day and always made me laugh. [Paulo] Dybala sent me many messages. And then [Dusan] Vlahovic, [Weston] McKennie, [Timothy] Weah, [Moise] Kean... I didn’t expect so many,” he added.
Pogba said that as well as getting back to his best for the Serie A side, he also wants to return to Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada.
“The dream of the World Cup is there, but Deschamps hasn’t opened the doors for anyone. It’s up to me to open them he told me to work,” the midfielder added.
Manchester City have reached do-or-die territory in the UEFA Champions League earlier than expected ahead of what Pep Guardiola has described as a “final” against Club Brugge today. City have disproved the suggestion a new format to Europe’s top club competition would remove any jeopardy for the top clubs as Guardiola stares down the barrel of failing to make the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in his career. The English champions have endured a torrid season both in their English Premier League title defense and on the continent. A run of one win in 13 games, which included Champions League

Less than a week after splashing out a world-record fee for Naomi Girma, Chelsea has spent big again to bring England midfielder Keira Walsh back to the English Women’s Super League. Walsh left European champions Barcelona after more than two years to join Chelsea for a reported £400,000 (US$496,000) on Friday. Walsh was the world’s most expensive player for two years after moving to Barcelona from Manchester City for a reported £400,000 in 2022. That status now belongs to Girma, the US defender who cost Chelsea a reported £900,000 to sign from the San Diego Wave. Still, it means 27-year-old Walsh — a technically
Ousmane Dembele on Wednesday scored a hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain romped to a 4-1 win at VfB Stuttgart and qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. PSG were at risk of elimination after a disappointing league stage, with three losses and a draw, but were utterly dominant against an outclassed Stuttgart side as they confirmed their place in the playoffs. With six minutes gone, Bradley Barcola headed PSG in front after Desire Doue stood a cross up at the back post following a corner. Stuttgart probed for an equalizer, but PSG hit on the counterattack, Dembele tapping a Barcola pass into an
