Taiwan’s Tseng Yu-ching on Tuesday night scored twice without a hit, while pitcher Lu Yu-ting held Venezuela to just three hits in the first four innings of Taiwan’s 3-0 victory in the rain-delayed final group game of the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup in Shaoxing, China.
The opener of the Group B game was delayed by 20 minutes and again for 30 minutes in the bottom of the fifth inning, shortly after Tseng put World No. 3 Taiwan on the board.
After four scoreless innings in which Yu allowed just three hits, second baseman Tseng was walked by Villegas Rodriguez in the top of the fifth. Tseng did not stay there long, before reaching second off a sacrifice bunt by right-fielder Huang Bo-rui.

With center-field Chiu Hsin at bat, Tseng then stole third base, before scoring off a wild pitch.
The game stayed quiet until the top of the seventh, when Tseng was again walked to first, this time by Castillo Reyes, Venezuela’s sixth pitcher of the night. Huang then hit a double, sending Tseng into third, which was followed by a double from Chiu that put Tseng and Huang across home plate to set the final score 3-0.
Taiwan’s only other win in the group stage was on Monday night against South Africa, who they dominated 11-0 in a game ended after just five innings.
Taiwan finished 2-3 in fifth place in Group B, which put them third in the placement round, ahead of Britain and South Africa, and behind Australia, the Netherlands and Colombia.
The Super Round and placement round start today, with Taiwan to play Colombia at Shaoxing Baseball and Softball Sports Culture Center.
Nicaragua and Puerto Rico topped the Super Round standings, followed by Japan, Venezuela, China and South Korea.
The qualifying round of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) is to be held at the Taipei Dome between Feb. 21 and 25, Major League Baseball (MLB) announced today. Taiwan’s group also includes Spain, Nicaragua and South Africa, with two of the four teams advancing onto the 2026 WBC. Taiwan, currently ranked second in the world in the World Baseball Softball Confederation rankings, are favorites to come out of the group, the MLB said in an article announcing the matchups. Last year, Taiwan finished in a five-way tie in their group with two wins and two losses, but finished last on tiebreakers after giving

It was the second global title in two months for secretive North Korea — largely closed off to the outside world; they also lifted the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in September. Officials and players’ families gathered at Pyongyang International Airport to wave flowers and North Korea flags as the
