Taiwan concluded this year’s Tug of War Outdoor World Championship with a total of six golds, two silvers and one bronze, the best result ever for the country, as the games wound up on Sunday in Germany.
Taiwan took three golds in the women’s 500kg, under-23 mixed 560kg and under-19 women’s 480kg categories, as well as a silver in the U19 men’s 560kg and a bronze in the men’s 680kg on Sunday, the second and final day of the championship games.
The wins followed three golds in the women’s 540kg, under-19 mixed 520kg and under-23 women’s 500kg, and a silver in the under-23 men’s 600kg, on Saturday.

The bronze in the men’s 680kg marked the first medal for Taiwan’s senior men.
Moreover, the women’s 500kg category team qualified for the World Games which is to be held in Chengdu, China, where the team would be defending its sixth title.
The national teams in the women’s 500kg, mixed 580kg or men’s 640kg needed to reach the top four to qualify for the World Games.
However, Taiwan’s mixed 580kg missed out after coming eighth, as did the men’s 640kg after being ranked ninth.
Chinese Taipei Tug of War Association secretary-general Cho Yao-peng said that the teams trained together to boost their strength and endurance.
The association chair Chen Chien-ping also kept a close eye on the competition, reminding the team to take care of athletes when rain hit the outdoor games on Sunday.
Overall, 93 Taiwanese athletes competed in 12 categories in this year’s tug-of-war games.
The competition was held in Mannheim, Germany, from Thursday to Sunday, with the first two days featuring open tournaments for schools, while the last two days were the championships, the tournament’s official Web site showed.

Center Isaiah Hartenstein, back after a five-game absence with a calf injury, added 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and a big block. The Golden State Warriors on Wednesday withstood Oklahoma City star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 52-point outburst to beat the Western Conference leading Thunder 116-109. Andrew Wiggins scored 27 points and Warriors superstar Stephen Curry scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half as Golden State erased a double-digit deficit and pulled away late for the victory. “We just stayed solid,” said Curry, who entered the contest mired in a shooting slump and had just four points on one basket in the first half. “Just all-around effort.” The Thunder, fueled by 31 first-half points from Gilgeous-Alexander, led by as many as 14 in the
