Taiwan’s Lin Tzu-yu and Tian Shiau-wen late on Saturday won the silver medal in the table tennis women’s doubles WD20 class at the Paris Paralympics, winning Taiwan’s second medal of this year’s games.
The top-seeded duo missed the gold, losing to Australia’s Lei Li Na and Yang Qian in the 29-minute final in South Paris Arena 4.
Lin and Tian struggled to adjust early in the match, losing the first two games 7-11 and 6-11.

Although they fought back to win the third game 11-3 and took the lead in the fourth game, they were unable to take advantage of their game point and lost 10-12 to the second seeds.
The Taiwanese duo said in a post-match interview that they were happy to surpass their performance at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, when Tian won a bronze in the women’s singles TT10 class.
It was also Taiwan’s only medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Tian said they had improved a lot compared with their Tokyo performance, thanking her coach’s effort, as well as others for their support.
“I have no regrets, having displayed the strength [we] were meant to show,” Tian said.
The silver medal was proof of their growth, Lin said, adding that “my partner is really very strong.”
Tian fell into a slump last year after an injury, but it gave her the chance for self-reflection and to stabilize her condition, her coach, Chuang Wen-chuan, said.
“I am really moved to see her grow along the way,” Chaung said.
Tying for the best performance of the Taiwanese table tennis team at the Paralympics with their silver, Tian and Lin were yesterday to start their first matches in the women’s singles WS10 class.
Tian was last night after press time to play Nigeria’s Faith Obazuaye.
The Taichung Sports Bureau yesterday said it would award NT$600,000 plus a NT$50,000 appearance award to Lin, who is a Taichung citizen.
Team Taiwan has won two medals so far at the Paralympics, the other being a bronze medal won on Thursday by taekwondo athlete Xiao Hsiang-wen in the men’s K44 58kg division.

Taiwan kept its hopes of advancing to the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) alive with a 9-1 victory over South Africa in a qualifier at the Taipei Dome last night, backed by solid pitching. Bouncing back from Friday’s struggles on the mound, when Taiwanese pitchers surrendered 15 runs to Spain, Team Taiwan kept the visiting team in check, allowing just one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The win was crucial for Taiwan, as a loss would have eliminated the team from contention for the next WBC. Starting pitcher Sha Tzu-chen (沙子宸) struck out one and allowed no hits, except for
The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) is considering reducing its pitch clock by two seconds to help players better adjust to the rules applied at the World Baseball Classic (WBC). The proposal aims to shorten the pitch timer from 25 seconds to 23 seconds with the bases empty, and from 20 seconds to 18 seconds with runners on base. Currently, the WBC mandates that pitchers deliver a pitch every 18 seconds with the bases empty and 15 seconds with runners on base. The issue was raised during a pre-season CPBL managers’ meeting on Tuesday by Rakuten Monkeys bench and batting
‘SETTING THE TONE’: Donovan Mitchell said that their determination to dominate had nothing to do with past results, but was about a potential post-season clash The Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday boosted their NBA-best record with a 142-105 romp past the New York Knicks, tightening their grip on the Eastern Conference lead with an all-around dominant display. Donovan Mitchell scored 27 points to lead six Cavs players to score in double figures, connecting on five of seven three-pointers as Cleveland drilled 19 from beyond the arc. “I think the biggest thing was just try to set the tone early,” Mitchell said, adding that the determination to dominate had nothing to do with the Knicks’ first-round playoff win over the Cavs two seasons ago and everything to do with
