Chen’s coach Ko Wen-ming said that he had Chen compete in the 70kg division in the tournament that started on Tuesday instead of her usual 66kg category to build her stress resistance.
Chen has improved greatly since the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September last year, and showed “increased stability, better tactics and a more steady mindset” in Saturday’s final, Ko said.
Also on Saturday, Kan Chia-wei won gold in the men’s 75kg division, defeating Poland’s Michal Jarlinski three rounds to two.

Meanwhile, Wu Shih-yi won silver in the women’s 60kg division and Huang Hsiao-wen took silver in the women’s 57kg category.
Wu and Kan have already secured a spot at the Paris Olympics, but Chen and Huang still need to compete in the qualifiers in Italy from Feb. 29 to March 12.
While Chen won bronze in last year’s Asian Games, she did not qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Ko said that Chen had a good chance of qualifying if she stays healthy.
Huang’s coach, Liu Tsung-tai, said that Huang’s goal at the Boxam International Tournament was to review her training results in competition against athletes in higher divisions, and to get to know her potential competitors in the 54kg division, with her eye mainly set on qualifying for the Olympics.
