Lucas Raymond and Robby Fabbri on Tuesday scored in the third period to lift the Detroit Red Wings 6-4 over the scuffling St Louis Blues, who fired coach Craig Berube after their season-worst fourth straight loss.
Berube had guided the team to their only Stanley Cup championship in 2019.
The 57-year-old Berube, in his sixth season with St Louis (13-14-1), had a record of 206-131-44. Drew Bannister, coach of the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League, takes over as interim coach.

“You’ve got to earn everything, right? It’s not just going to happen,” Berube said after the game, but before his dismissal was announced. “You’ve got to play the right way to earn it. You’ve got to do the little things right. We did a lot of good things tonight. We scored enough goals to win the game, but in the end, we didn’t take care of the front of our net very well.”
St Louis used three second-period goals to go ahead 4-3.
Kevin Hayes scored twice for the Blues, who also got goals from Marco Scandella and Brandon Saad. St Louis has lost five of six overall.
Moritz Seider, Jake Walman, Jonatan Berggren and Michael Rasmussen had goals for the Red Wings, who were 0-2-1 in their previous three games.
“For us to play on the road back-to-back and trailing in the third, it’s a huge win for us,” Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. “I like how we played down the stretch. We found a way to win.”
Fabbri put the Red Wings up 5-4 at six minutes, 38 seconds in the third period, when he scored against his former team. Rasmussen added an empty-net goal at 18:21.
“Yeah, it’s always fun to beat the former team,” Fabbri said. “I’ll take it.”
In Tuesday’s other games, the Edmonton Oilers won their eighth straight win with a 4-1 trampling of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Toronto Maple Leafs dominated the New York Rangers 7-3, the Pittsburgh Penguins outplayed the Arizona Coyotes 4-2, the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1 and the Nashville Predators pipped the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in overtime.
The Golden Knights edged the Calgary Flames 5-4 in overtime, the Las Vegas Kraken blanked the Florida Panthers 4-0, the Vancouver Canucks topped the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 and the San Jose Sharks downed the Winnipeg Jets 2-1.
