Goaltender Tristan Jarry on Thursday scored an empty-net goal and made 39 saves in the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Jarry stopped a dump-in and sent the puck end-to-end into the net with 1 minute, 8 seconds left.
“It was pretty lucky,” Jarry said. “It’s pretty neat, honestly. It’s something that doesn’t happen very often. There’s very few that have done it, so it’s definitely pretty cool, but honestly the win means more.”

Jarry is the fourth goalie to score in the past 10 years and 14th overall in the regular season. He looked at the boards at first for a potential clearing try before taking aim at the opposing goal with a lofted shot.
“It was just kind of the perfect scenario,” Jarry said. “It was coming in kind of slow, and I was able to just get around it and shoot as hard as I could.”
It was the first goal scored by a Penguins goaltender.

Jarry also had a goal for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Nov. 14, 2018.
“I’m really happy for him,” Penguins star Sidney Crosby said.
Jeff Carter scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for the Penguins, who also got goals from Crosby and Drew O’Connor.

He finished with a team-record 28 points in 14 games for November.
Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 shots.
Tampa Bay have lost three in a row.
“At times in the game we made crazy board decisions, and every time we make one it ends up in the back of the net,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said.
After trailing 2-0, the Penguins took a 3-2 lead when Carter stopped an 18-game goal drought 2 minutes, 49 seconds into the third period with his 432nd NHL goal.
“It felt good,” Carter said. “It’s been a while.”
Crosby skated in along from the left wing boards and lifted home a nifty wrist shot from the left circle 8 minutes, 53 seconds into the second to make it 2-1.
O’Connor, playing in his 100th game, tied it at 2-2 with 36 seconds left in the second off a nice feed by Evgeni Malkin on the Penguins’ 19th shot of the period.
Stamkos and Jeannot, on the power play, had first-period goals.

Shohei Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw on Friday joined their Los Angeles Dodgers teammates in sticking their fists out to show off their glittering World Series rings at a ceremony. “There’s just a lot of excitement, probably more than I can ever recall with the Dodger fan base and our players,” manager Dave Roberts said before Los Angeles rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 8-5 in 10 innings. “What a way to cap off the first two days of celebrations,” Roberts said afterward. “By far the best opening week I’ve ever experienced. I just couldn’t have scripted it any better.” A choir in the
After fleeing Sudan when civil war erupted, Al-Hilal captain Mohamed Abdelrahman and his teammates have defied the odds to reach the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. They are today to face title-holders Al-Ahly of Egypt in Cairo, with the return match in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, on Tuesday next week. Al-Hilal and biggest domestic rivals Al-Merrikh relocated to Mauritania after a power struggle broke out in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and a paramilitary force. The civil war has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced more than 12 million people, according to the UN. The Democratic Republic of the Congo-born Al-Hilal
The famously raucous Hong Kong Sevens are to start today in a big test for a shiny new stadium at the heart of a major US$3.85 billion sports park in the territory. Officials are keeping their fingers crossed that the premier event in Hong Kong’s sporting and social calendar goes off without a hitch at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium. They hope to entice major European soccer teams to visit in the next few months, with reports in December last year saying that Liverpool were in talks about a pre-season tour. Coldplay are to perform there next month, all part of Hong Kong’s
Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman on Thursday smashed home runs to give the reigning World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-4 victory over Detroit on the MLB’s opening day in the US.
