World No. 3 Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan yesterday eliminated India’s P.V. Sindhu at the Indonesia Open to advance to the quarter-finals.
Tai beat Sindhu, who is ranked 14th in the Badminton World Federation rankings, 21-18, 21-16 in the women’s singles at the Istora Senayan Sports Arena in Jakarta, her 19th victory over the Indian in 24 meetings.
Tai took a 17-10 lead in the opening game before Sindhu rallied to make it 19-17, with Tai allowing her opponent back into the game with a series of mistakes.

However, Sindhu could not capitalize and the Taiwanese claimed the first game in 15 minutes.
Sindhu had a 16-14 lead in the second game before Tai won seven consecutive points to wrap up the match in 39 minutes.
Tai faces Carolina Marin of Spain in the quarter-finals today.

In the women’s doubles, Teng Chun-hsun and Lee Chia-hsin lost 21-15, 17-21, 8-21 against Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota of Japan.
In the men’s singles, Chou Tien-chen beat Brian Yang of Canada 21-16, 21-8, but Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen ousted Taiwan’s Wang Tzu-wei 21-8, 21-13.
