Trevor Moore on Friday became the first California-born player to score a post-season overtime goal for a California-based team, with his power-play goal 3 minutes, 24 seconds into the extra period giving the Kings a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers and a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.
Moore grew up in Thousand Oaks and entered the playoffs with the Los Angeles Kings hoping to achieve his own post-season moment.
It happened for the 28-year old forward, even though he needed to wait a little bit to make sure it counted.

“It was awesome. Super fun playing in that building. That energy was like nothing else. It was really special,” Moore said after his first goal of the series and fourth post-season score of his career.
The goal was upheld following a lengthy review to determine whether Gabriel Villardi played the puck in the corner with a high stick.
The NHL’s situation room said that there was no conclusive video evidence to determine that the puck made contact with Viladri’s stick.
“It was a long wait, but wasn’t horrible. Either way know we were going to keep pushing and it was all good,” Moore said of the review.
Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft was not happy that the goal stood and how the game was called.
“It’s a play where the greatest player in the world [Connor McDavid] is 2 feet [60cm] away as it happens and his arm comes straight up in the air because he knows that it hit the stick. Otherwise, he wouldn’t put his arm up in the air and keep playing,” Woodcroft said. “It appears to me and in video that the puck is going straight up in a trajectory and deadens.”
Islanders 5, Hurricanes 1
Kyle Palmieri and Matt Martin scored in a 44-second span late in the third period to spark a historic outburst by hosts New York, who beat Carolina in Game 3 of their series in Elmont, New York.
Palmieri redirected a shot by Sebastian Aho as the Islanders’ fifth power play of the game expired with 3 minutes, 51 seconds left before Martin added the insurance goal for New York. Scott Mayfield scored an empty-netter with 1 minutes, 49 seconds left and Anders Lee scored 16 seconds later.
The four goals in 2 minutes, 17 seconds marked the fastest four-goal flurry in NHL playoff history.
Bruins 4, Panthers 2
Linus Ullmark made 29 saves as top-seeded Boston defeated hosts Florida in their series in Sunrise, Florida. The Bruins lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.
Wild 5, Stars 1
Mats Zuccarello scored twice as Minnesota beat Dallas in Game 3 of their series in Saint Paul, Minnesota, which put the Wild up 2-1.
