In 2024, the torch won’t have to leave Europe after it is lit in Olympia, Greece. The 2024 Summer Olympics will begin in Paris, France, on July 26, marking exactly a century since Paris last hosted the Olympic Games in 1924. This year’s opening ceremony promises to be a true spectacle: National teams will parade on boats down the Seine River. The Olympic torch will be carried along the river until it reaches the Trocadeoro Gardens, which is across from the Eiffel Tower on the opposite side of the river. Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the banks of the river as the national teams and the Olympic torch pass by.
At this year’s Olympics, a new sport is going to be added. For the first time ever, breakdancing will be recognized as an official Olympic sport. Several other recent additions that were added at the Tokyo Olympics will also return for a second time. These include skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
Another aspect of the 2024 Paris Olympics is a new approach being taken to limit the Games’ carbon footprint. The Olympic Committee and Paris city planners are working together and asking tourists and national teams to assist in the ambitious project. The Olympic Village will adopt a sustainable model and enforce a zero-waste policy. Their goal is to reduce the environmental impact of the Games by 50 percent in comparison to previous Games. The Olympic Committee hopes that the 2024 Games will serve as an example for future Olympic events while also raising environmental awareness across the world.

Street lights are often taken for granted until a power outage plunges the world into darkness. When that happens, the value of these lighting installations becomes evident as the world turns into a more dangerous place for pedestrians and motorists alike. The Chinese could claim to be the first to have constructed a crude type of street light. Around 500 BC, residents of Beijing employed a type of street lamp that used hollow bamboo pipes and natural gas vents to create burning torches. Later, ancient Romans adopted lamps fueled by vegetable oil, which relied on slaves to light and

In the 5th century B.C., the playwright Sophocles begins Oedipus Tyrannos with the title character struggling to identify the cause of a plague striking his city, Thebes. (Spoiler alert: It’s his own bad leadership.) (Joel Christensen, “Plagues follow bad leadership in ancient Greek tales,” The Conversation, March 12, Spoiler alert: It’s his own bad leadership.(破梗:領導無方)。 Humans are always blaming the gods for their suffering, but they experience
