小華：咦，父親節不是已經過了嗎？
Xiǎohuá: Yí, Fùqīnjié búshì yǐjīng guòle ma?
小清：啊，美國的父親節在六月，可是台灣的父親節是八月八日。
Xiǎoqīng: A, Měiguó de Fùqīnjié zài liùyuè, kěshì Táiwān de Fùqīnjié shì bāyuè bārì.
小華：喔，「八八」聽起來跟爸爸聲音一樣，有意思！那台灣人一般怎麼慶祝父親節呢？
Xiǎohuá: Ō, “bābā” tīngqǐlái gēn “bàba” shēngyīn yíyàng, yǒuyìsi! Nà Táiwān rén yìbān zěnme qìngzhù Fùqīnjié ne?
小清：我們家都是全家一起出去吃大餐。 Xiǎoqīng: Wǒmen jiā dōu shì quánjiā yìqǐ chūqù chī dàcān.
小華：那誰付錢呢？
Xiǎohuá: Nà sheí fùqián ne?
小清：……我爸爸刷卡。
Xiǎoqīng: . . . Wǒ bàba shuākǎ.
小華：哈哈哈！難怪我聽說有的爸爸說父親節其實是「付清節」，原來如此。
Xiǎohuá: Hāhāhā! Nánguài wǒ tīngshuō yǒude bàba shuō Fùqīnjié qíshí shì “fù qīng jié,” yuánlái rúcǐ.
翻譯 Translation
Xiaoqing: Father’s Day is coming soon. What are your plans?
Xiaohua: Huh? Hasn’t Father’s Day already come and gone?
Xiaoqing: Ah, Father’s Day in the United States is in June, but in Taiwan, it’s on Aug. 8.
Xiaohua: Oh, “bābā (8/8)” sounds like “bàba (dad),” how interesting! And how do people in Taiwan generally celebrate Father’s Day?
Xiaoqing: In our family, we all go out for a big meal.
Xiaohua: Who pays for it then?
Xiaoqing: . . . My dad pays with his credit card.
Xiaohua: Hahaha! No wonder I heard some dads say that Father’s Day is actually Pay Day. Now I understand.

A Cameroon-flagged cargo vessel “Shunxin-39” was believed to have caused damage to an undersea cable of Taiwan telecoms operator Chunghwa Telecom on the morning of Jan. 3.
