Xiǎoqīng: Zuìjìn měitiān xiàyǔ, shàngxiàbān zhēn bù fāngbiàn!

小華：是啊，現在是梅雨季節。
Xiǎohuá: Shìa, xiànzài shì méiyǔ jìjié.
小清：明明在下雨，你為什麼說「沒」雨季節？
Xiǎoqīng: Míngmíng zài xiàyǔ, nǐ wèishéme shuō ”méi” yǔ jìjié?
小華：哈哈，是「梅子」的「梅」，不是「沒有」的「沒」啦！因為現在是「梅子」成熟的季節，所以每年這個時候下的雨就叫「梅雨」。
Xiǎohuá: Hāhā, shì “méizi” de “méi,” búshì “méiyǒu” de “méi” la! Yīnwèi xiànzài shì “méizi” chéngshóu de jìjié, suǒyǐ měinián zhège shíhòu xià de yǔ jiù jiào “méiyǔ.”
小清：啊，中文真奧妙啊！
Xiǎoqīng: A, zhōngwén zhēn àomiào a!
翻譯 Translation
Xiaoqing: It’s been raining every day recently, so it’s really inconvenient to commute to and from work!
Xiaohua: Yes, it is the rainy season now.
Xiaoqing: It’s obviously raining outside right now, why do you say there is no rainy season?
Xiaohua: Haha, it’s “mei” as in plum, not “mei” as in “none!” Right now the “plums” are ripening, so the rain that falls at this time of the year is called “plum rain.”
Xiaoqing: Ah, Chinese is so subtle!
