The Wenhu (brown) line of the MRT metro rail system in Taipei, which runs a near loop through eastern Taipei, resumed regular operations yesterday afternoon after a signal problem left part of the service suspended for seven hours, affecting about 10,000 passengers.
The signal problem at 7:31am forced the operator to shut down service along most of the north section of the line between Jiannan Road and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center stations, according to Taipei Rapid Transit Corp (台北捷運公司), which runs the metro.
Shuttle buses were provided for passengers traveling the affected length of the line until 11:45am, when the malfunction was fixed and the service was restored to all stations except for trains at Donghu Station headed toward Nangang, the company said.

The entire line — running between Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center and Taipei Zoo — resumed regular operations at 2:34pm.
The cause of the problem remains unknown, the company said.
The brown line was plagued by frequent malfunctions shortly after it opened in July 2009 due to compatibility issues between the new Neihu Line extension and the older system.
Between July and September of that year, 32 glitches lasting five minutes or more were reported on the line.
