This year, Citibank Taiwan Limited (Citi Taiwan) picked up two prestigious regional awards in recognition of its strong, market-leading franchise in Taiwan and the support it has extended corporate clients during the award consideration period. Citi Taiwan was awarded ‘Best Investment Bank’ by Asiamoney and ‘Best Sub-Custodian Bank’ by The Asset Triple A Awards.
Throughout the year, Citi Taiwan played an instrumental role in assisting Taiwanese companies in expanding their global presence, by helping them raise capital and providing Merger & Acquisition (M&A) advisory and execution capabilities for strategic transactions in different parts of the world. In addition, Citi Taiwan – on behalf of the foreign financial institutions in Taiwan - repeatedly advocated for impactful, market enhancing amendments to the current financial market framework to further enhance the ease of doing business.
The independent recognition by Asiamoney pointed out that “Being able to tap into the broader global network of the US firm is a clear differentiator, but Citi’s strength of the financial network that it has built and maintained in Taiwan has allowed the firm to maintain a truly impressive deal momentum in the toughest of global environments”. Citi Taiwan also led capital-raising activity and helped clients grow and strengthen their own capital structure by raising more than US$7.7 billion in global depositary receipts (GDRs), international corporate bonds, and private investment in public equity (PIPE) during the 2022 to 2023 awards consideration period.
In addition, Citi Taiwan led several landmark M&A deals that received considerable attention and positive recognition from the financial market, in what was a challenging year for global investment banking activity. The M&A deals executed by Citi on behalf of its clients, helped clients enhance the global competitiveness of their product lines, customer pipelines, distribution channels, and talent pool, bringing them closer to achieving their long-term strategic goals.
Christie Chang, President of Citi Taiwan remarked, “We have played an instrumental role in identifying and putting forward strategic opportunities for our clients’ consideration, as they look to expand their footprint and grow their business, serving as a trusted advisor. As a result, our equity capital markets (ECM), debt capital markets (DCM), and M&A advisory services have maintained a strong momentum, despite a muted investment banking environment. Going forward, Citi Taiwan is focused on solidifying its leadership position in green loans and sustainable trade financing products and supporting our clients through their sustainability journeys.”
In securities services, Citi Taiwan’s assets under custody (AUC) continued to grow as Citi gained additional market share of the Taiwan custody market, which resulted in Citi being recognized as ’Best Sub-custodian Bank by The Asset Triple A Awards 2023. Citi has won this award for the sixth consecutive year now.
Speaking about the impressive award-winning streak of Citi Taiwan, Aftab Ahmed, Chairman of Citi Taiwan expressed his confidence in Citi’s business and growth prospects in Taiwan, saying, “Citi’s goal in Taiwan is to be viewed as being a trusted advisor by our clients. To achieve this objective, we leverage our globality and robust global platforms to deliver financial solutions that address our clients’ needs both locally as well as in markets where we have a presence.”
Over the past several years, Citi Taiwan has consistently won numerous international awards by The Asset Triple A Awards including ‘Best Equity Adviser’ for two consecutive years, ‘Best Corporate and Institutional Bank’ for eight successive years, and ’Best Sub-Custodian Bank’ for six years running. In addition, Asiamoney has presented Citi Taiwan with the ‘Best Investment Bank’ award for two consecutive years in recognition of Citi’s outstanding investment banking franchise in Taiwan and our ability to support clients through uncertain market conditions. Finally, Citi Taiwan has also been recognized by FinanceAsia as the “Best International Investment Bank” four times in the last six years.
