CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC, 台灣中油) and Formosa Petrochemical Corp (台塑石化) are to lower domestic gasoline prices this week, but leave diesel prices unchanged from last week.
In separate statements yesterday, state-run CPC and privately owned Formosa said that they would lower gasoline prices by NT$0.1 per liter, effective today, following price cuts of NT$0.1 per liter the previous week.
Based on its floating oil price formula, CPC said that the cost of crude oil last week had declined by 1.99 percent from a week earlier.
Formosa said that the fall in prices of crude oil came after US crude oil production remained high last week and oil inventories rose higher than expected, while industrial production data for last month were weak.
Effective today, gasoline prices at CPC and Formosa stations are to fall to NT$29.5, NT$31.0 and NT$33.0 per liter for 92, 95 and 98-octane unleaded gasoline respectively, the companies said.
Premium diesel is to stay at NT$27.1 per liter at CPC stations and NT$26.9 at Formosa pumps, they said.

Home to the world’s largest contract chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電), Taiwan is a key link in the global technology supply chain for companies such as Apple Inc and Nvidia Corp. Trump said on Monday he plans to impose tariffs on imported chips, pharmaceuticals and steel in an effort to get the producers to make them in the US. “Taiwan and the US semiconductor and other technology industries

The app’s underlying AI model is widely seen as competitive with OpenAI and Meta Platforms Inc’s latest. Its claim that it cost much less to train and develop triggered share moves across Asia’s supply chain. Chinese tech firms linked to DeepSeek, such as Iflytek Co (科大訊飛), surged yesterday, while chipmaking tool makers like Advantest Corp slumped on the potential threat to demand for Nvidia Corp’s AI accelerators. The Fed cut its key lending rate by a full percentage point in the final four months of last year and indicated it would move more cautiously going forward amid an uptick in inflation away from its long-term target of 2 percent. “I think they will do nothing, and I think they should do nothing,” Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis former president Jim Bullard said. “I think the
