Inhabitants of the Manuani river basin, at an abandoned mining camp called La Pampa, near the Tambopata National Reserve in Madre De Dios, Peru, observe damage to the forest after miners ended gold extraction in the area and moved deeper into the forest on Wednesday. A wide swathe of contaminated and sterile mud has been left in what it was once pristine Amazonian rainforest.Mar 26, 2012
